Video Editing Tools
Video editing sounds intimidating and scary. But it doesn’t have to be. Whether you’re putting together a video for social media or a website, with a few tools, you can create great, professional videos.
Tool 1: Storyboard
First, you need a plan. Your plan should include your goals and a storyboard that maps out your scenes. From there, you can create a list of resources and items needed for each shot. Plan to separate each scene as in your storyboard. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated, but there are tools to help.

Tool 2: A recording device
Next, you’ll need something to record your video. You can use your cell phone, tablet, or a recording device like a camera, camcorder, or GoPro. In considering which option to use, consider the quality that you’re looking for and the motion that you want. If you want less movement, you could use a device that has a stabilizer to help keep your video smooth. If you don’t mind a bit of movement (and think your audience won’t mind), you could use a device in your hands.
Most cell phones have great video capabilities, but sometimes, the audio is not the same quality or vice versa. Consider creating video without sound and then layering the sound over the video in editing. Strong sound without background noise is ideal.
Tool 3: Editing software
Once you’re ready, you need to edit your video. There are tons of options for editing software, but you’ll have to look at your resources. If you are using your cell phone, you’ll want programs like Quik or Magisto to edit with, but if you’re using a PC, you have a lot more options. Some of the options below cost, but many have free versions that work well.
