Why tracking analytical data for social media helps

Why tracking analytical data for social media helps

Social media is often seen as a fun way to communicate. But for those of us who own businesses, we know it’s a tool. It’s a tool to expand your brand’s reach, your client base, and your engagement. It’s also a tool to measure your brand’s reach, your client base, and your engagement among other things. It’s a tool to help you adjust or evolve in your marketing, leading to a more effective and cost efficient marketing plan.

Brand’s reach

Data collected from social media allows your brand to remain current, increasing your brand’s reach. Monitoring your content to see what is viewed positively or negatively helps you maintain a good reputation. Retaining a positive brand appearance to the public is essential for any business, and social media data allows you to monitor how you are perceived.

Client base

We all know we have to get in our client’s heads. We have to really understand who they are, what they want, what they need, what they care about, and so on. There are so many ways to find clients, but social media is a tool to truly understand our clients. Through data collected on social media, we can put together who our clients are and use that for our client avatars.

Engagement

Tracking analytical data allows you to see your business’s growth over time by tracking engagement. You can easily see what posts are engaging, who is engaging, when they are engaging, and more. If you’ve set up an effective campaign, you can pinpoint exactly what level of success it is actually achieving.

You can even identify what your competitors are doing and how their audience is responding. Their audience is your audience, so if they’re doing something really well, you may want to pay attention to it.

How do I track analytical data for social media?

All social media platforms use a different tool for their data analytics:

  • Instagram uses the Facebook Insights platform now
  • Facebook uses the Insights tab of a Facebook page
  • Twitter uses Twitter Analytics
  • LinkedIn uses limited Activity Dashboard for a free account but more in depth information with a premium account
  • YouTube uses YouTube Analytics Dashboard
  1. Step 1: Access the social media data
      • Using the information above, you can access social media analytics.
  2. Step 2: Discover information about your audience and your account
      • Now that you have access to the data, analyze what it actually means.
      • Looking at an overview of the interactions on your accounts, see if your audience is engaging with your business. Check to see if the content you are creating is interesting and engaging to your audience or if you need some work to improve it.
      • Looking at interactions between all of your followers, see how much of your audience is actually engaging and what is most engaging. Check out the number of click-throughs on your posts to see how much traffic is actually going through to your website.
      • Looking at the overall growth of your accounts, see how many more (or less) followers, likes, or comments there are. Check to see if you are growing steadily.
  3. Step 3: Look at your competitors social media analytics
    • Now that you know where your accounts are, it is time to see how you compare with your competitors.
    • Using a benchmarking strategy, compare your business to your competitors, factoring in the industry and location. This process allows you to see just how successful you actually were in the year.
    • Regularly check your competitor’s analytics to keep a close eye on them and on your clients.
