What is copywriting? | Avrah Virtual

What is copyrwriting? Many people think copywriting is simply writing. They’re partially right. Copywriting is writing, but they don’t realize the most important part of copywriting is the purpose: marketing your business.

You might have a website, social media page, or blog where you share information on your services, your business, your successes or references, and yourself. Your audience wants that information. But they also need to know what you have to offer them. That’s where copywriting comes in.

A good copy (the term we use for the product) will help you sell a product or service. For example, you may offer the best headphones on the market. If no one knows about your headphones, it doesn’t matter how great your product is. You need good copy. You need a killer description (copy) on your website that gives your audience the specs they need for that headset. You should also have a specific email marketing (copy) strategy that sells these headsets to your audience. (More on email marketing to come….) You should also share a post (copy) on your social media page(s). You should have your product in a blog that is also shared in the email marketing series and social media pages. You should find strategic partners and encourage (copy) them to try and then to review your product. It makes sense when you break down the potential income.

Copy = $$$

Ultimately, copy equates to more money for you. Let’s say your headphones are $300 each. If you sell one pair per copy, you are selling with your

  • description on website–$300
  • email marketing series of 5 emails–$1500
  • Facebook post–$300
  • IG post–$300
  • Twitter share–$300
  • blog–$300
  • shares out of blog on social media outlets–$900
  • strategic partner–$300

That’s potentially $4,200 in sales! It makes sense, but it’s not something that you should do on your own.

Hiring a copywriter

Your schedule is busy. You don’t necessarily have time to write your own copy. You also shouldn’t write your own copy.

You may be the expert in your area, but a copywriter is an expert in writing copy that equates to sales. Think of your copywriter like a salesperson. A good copywriter will ask the right questions to know your target audience and know enough about your product to write copy that is persuasive, appealing, and results in increased sales.

If you spend $1,000 on a copywriter for those items listed above, you should make more than the projected $4,200, but even if you don’t, you’ve still made a $3,200 profit.

Copywriters write in the background (ghostwriters), so you will get all the credit for your clever, grammatically correct language without doing the work.

I know a guy…?

Copywriting is a field that many people think they can dive into, but they don’t realize the extensive training in rhetoric and persuasion that solid copywriters go through. With training in rhetoric and a strong writing background, a qualified copywriter can increase your sales exponentially.
